Тrebinje – most south city in the community in Republic Srpska in Bosnia & HerzegovinaThe city is situated on the river Trebisnica in south-east Herzegovina, on the 24 km from Dubrovnik (Croatia) — city on the Adriatic sea.
The history of the city dates back to antiquity. The name — «Тrebinje» comes from the ancient «Travuniya» — the ancient name of the area on the banks of the Adriatic sea from Kotor to Dubrovnik, which include current city and surrounding mountains.
For Trebinje we can say it is town of tree religions — here are located numerous Orthodox Churches (should be noted Chatedral church of the Holy transfiguration of the Lord in the city park) and monastery Hercegovacka Gracanica on the hill Crkvine. Also in the city center is Catholic cathedral (beginning of XX century) and Osman Pasha Mosque (XVIII century) in Old town, destroyed during the war 1992-95. In 2005 was restored and returned to Muslim-Bosnians.
To the south —west of the city is plain Popovo field. Here are the monastery Tvrdos (XV century) — center of the Diocese Costal and Zahumsko-Herzegovian. In the plan of the excursion is visiting of that Monastery as well.
After that is return to Budva.
